Since 2007, American Foreign Academic Research and The Archaeological Institute of America has presented The Maya at the Playa Conference. Held in the Fall of each year this conference was created by C. Mathew "Mat" Saunders as a fun way to educate his High School Archaeology students and the Public about Maya Studies. The conference is held in Palm Coast, Florida where, at the time the conference was started, Mat taught. The Four day conference features leading scholars in a enjoyable format. Beyond the lecture hall workshops covering area such as Lithic technology (creating chipped stone tools), Beginners and Inermediate Hieroglyphs, weaving by a master weaver and playing the Maya Ballgame have been presinted. Each evening events such as receptions or meals allow attendies to speak with presenters. A truly unique experience!
